Side was established by the Kymel Colonists in the seventh century (B.C). Today we know that, the extinguished Anotolian clans did choose the Side region for settlement. Over the sikkes found around Side we see pomegranate figures, symbolling the land's fruitfulness.
This prooves that the city people were dealing with agriculture basicly. The name 'Side' is coming from the Latin name 'Cite' (city).
In the sixth century (B.C) Side was under the dominance of the Lydia Kingdom. However, in 547-546 (B.C) the city was conqured by the Persians and in 334 (B.C) it opened its city gates to iskender without fighting. Side met the Greek culture by this occasion.
